Wolfgang Van Halen made the heads of guitarists everywhere hurt.
Like his father before him, Wolfgang played a lick on his dad’s famed Frankenstein guitar that made some of the best internet virtuosos scratch their heads. On IG, Wolf was playing a solo on his dad’s guitar that was a part of the Mammoth WVH song “The End”.
The part of the solo that’s perplexing everyone is the slap part, that at time within the song Wolf is playing while he’s singing, so add that to the humbling experience that is watching the prodigy that is Wolfgang Van Halen. The slap is based on timing, much like the intro to the Van Halen song “Mean Street”, which brought Joe Satriani, much ridicule from internet wannabe’s, after not playing it exactly the way Edward did, when he tried it on the Howard Stern show.
More than a few of YouTube’s most popular guitar techs have attempted to breakdown the lick, but there has yet to be someone who has matched the exact pattern as easily as Wolf plays it.
Think you got what it takes to tackle the slap? Give it a shot, post your attempt on Instagram and #radiojockdocreno when you do.
