Common Penny That Could Be In Your Pocket Right Now Is Selling For $4,000

These days, plenty of people would walk by a penny that's on the ground, thinking that it isn't worth one cent to potentially touch something dirty. However, that penny, and ones that could right now be in your pocket or under your couch cushion, might actually be worth thousands of dollars.

The_Coin_Guy on TikTok explained what to look for and it is all about President Abraham Lincoln's ear. If you look at your penny and Honest Abe seems to have an extra earlobe, the coin is way more valuable than you'd think. The mistake, which is known as a double die error, is most often seen on 1984 pennies, but could be on other years as well. Since there were eight billion pennies produced in 1984, chances are somewhat high that you might have one with the "double ear error."

A penny in mint condition with the mistake sold in 2009 for about $4,000, but even ones in not great condition are worth over $100.

So what should you do if you find a penny with a double-lobed Abe? A pawn shop will probably pay you for it, but if you are looking to get the true value of the coin, you're better off listing it on eBay or selling it through a Facebook group for coin collectors. And keep in mind, there are plenty of other coins out there worth way more than face value too.
