North Carolina Dog Tests Positive for Coronavirus, Passes Away

A dog has tested positive for COVID-19 in North Carolina and has passed away from the 'acute illness,' according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

This is the first reported case of the coronavirus in a dog in the state.

A family member of the dog had tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the year, but had since tested negative.

Dr. Carl Williams, the state public health veterinarian, said, "Based on the information available, the risk of animals spreading the virus to people is considered to be low."
