One Child Dead, Others Critically Injured Following House Fire

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Officials told Channel 9 a child has died after being rushed to the hospital following a house fire in east Charlotte early Wednesday.

Seven people, including five children, were critically injured after flames ripped through the home on Academy Lane just before 1 a.m., according to emergency officials.

One of those children did not survive but investigators have not released any other details.

Officials said flames were shooting from the home and it took more than 30 firefighters about a half hour to get the fire under control.
