CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Authorities said the search for a 4-year-old boy who was reported missing in south Charlotte has ended with the child being found safe at a neighbor's apartment.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Justin Idiarte disappeared from his apartment just before 1 a.m. Friday. Police said he was found alive and safe around 9 a.m. at a neighbor's apartment.
According to CMPD, the boy said he went to the apartment overnight and told the resident who lives there that his parents weren't home.
The apartment is less than 100 yards away from his.
"This is wonderful news and a good day," CMPD Maj. Mike Smathers told reporters after the boy was found. He thanked everyone who helped in the search.
Police said officers had been knocking door-by-door looking for Justin and that the boy was found when an officer knocked on an apartment door for the second time.
