Suspicious Package Causes Evacuations, Road Closure in Uptown

UPDATE: Authorities are reporting that the package is non-hazardous. Roads are now open. 

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Police have blocked a busy street in uptown Charlotte while authorities investigate a report of a suspicious package.

Channel 9 reporter Gina Esposito was on scene just before 6:45 a.m. Tuesday and watched as officers blocked Martin Luther King Boulevard between Church Street and South Tryon Street.

Investigators told Channel 9 that deliveries were being made to B. Good foods at 400 South Tryon Street when a suspicious package was noticed. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said they were bringing bomb-sniffing dogs to the scene, which was across from the Chamber of Commerce.
