Florence Update: Latest Info from Charlotte and Regional Authorities

Here are the latest updates from Charlotte and regional authorities as of 11 am on Saturday, September 15th:

  • Government updates can be found at http://charlottenc.gov/Pages/Home.aspx 
  • Record rainfall is expected. Forecasters are predicting 8 to 12 inches for the Charlotte area
  • Sustained winds are expected to be at least 35 mph with gusts of 50
  • Charlotte is at risk for tornadoes Saturday night and Sunday
  • Storm will be parked over Charlotte for 24 hours
  • Be prepared to be without power for three days
  • Charlotte Mecklenburg Police are asking to only use 911 if it’s a true emergency. 311 is staffed for non-emergencies
  • Shelter in place. Stay home with family and friends if possible
  • If a traffic signal is dark or flashing red, STOP as if it’s a 4-way stop
  • Water rescue teams are in place and are expected to be used as rain becomes heavier
  • Power outages are fluctuating. It's been as high as 11,000 without power so far
  • Duke Energy has trucks staged at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Carowinds
  • Crews cannot go up in bucket trucks once wind reaches 30 mph
