Happy Birthday, Robert Plant!

The legendary Led Zeppelin vocalist is 65.  Robert Plant was born on August 24, 1948 in the Black Country of England.

Plant left home at 16.  He bounced around with fellow future Led Zeppelin member John Bonham in the Band of Joy and in a band called Hobbstweedle.  In 1968, Jimmy Page invited Plant to join the New Yardbirds.  Eventually, the band changed its name to Led Zeppelin.

After a 12 year run as perhaps the biggest rock band of all time, Led Zeppelin disbanded in 1980 following Bonham's death.  Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Plant recorded as a solo artist and occasionally teamed up with Page.

In the past decade, Robert Plant has recorded and toured with various folk and blues influenced bands.  Plant has recorded with Alison Krauss, a revamped Band of Joy lineup, and did reunite for a one time reunion show with Led Zeppelin.  He currently performs with the Sensational Space Shifters.
