Latest Forecast Predictions for the Charlotte Metro Area

Forecast highlights:

  • Confidence is growing that a strong winter storm will approach the Carolinas late Saturday and continue through Sunday and Monday.
  • Accumulations will be highest north of Charlotte into the mountains, with the high country expected to see 6-12 inches or more.
  • At this point, we are looking at snow and sleet to add up to 3-6" over Charlotte metro area with much lower amounts in the south.
  • Forecast accumulations and precipitation types could change dramatically as the storm moves closer this weekend.
  • Watauga and Avery counties schools are closed Thursday (click here for all closings and delays). Ashe County Schools is operating on a two-hour delay.
  • Thursday will be quiet, but cold with afternoon highs in the 40s.
  • It will be calm through Friday and probably even early Saturday before the winter storm takes shape in the Charlotte area.
