The Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Avett Brothers are not very similar.  The Chili Peppers are funky, alternative rock legends.  The Brothers are young, energetic folk music.

But, they have more in common than you may realize.

They are both produced by Rick Rubin.  That connection led Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith to the Avett Brothers.  Smith contributed to the Brothers' most recent album, The Carpenter.

Chad Smith and the Avett Brothers met up at Delaware's Firefly Music Festival.  They sat down for Smith's podcast, In Conversation with Chad Smith.  In the two part episode, the muisicians discussed Rubin, the writing process, how to survive as a band, and a lot more.  It's interesting stuff.  Check it out.
